what do you mean by a sign manual?
Oh good, cos I was having a little trouble with that too (phew).
sign-manual: a handbook like reference guide to a system of differentiated signatures/ qualities. There is a clue in the second word. its very useful to police
yes, I thought of that, but thought manual sign might be a better way of expressing it.
